One of the most significant elements of history and constitutive factors of civilizational changes in the Mediterranean region in ancient times were the migrations of barbarian peoples. The aim of the conference \u201cBarbarian Migrations between the Danube and the Adriatic in the 4th-5th centuries\u201d is to create an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas on a wide range of issues related to the migrations of the 4th-5th centuries in the areas marked by the Danube and the Adriatic Sea. The organizers intend for this to be the first conference in a series on barbarian migrations in the first millennium AD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The complex phenomenon of migration encompasses many specific problems and issues, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 the motives behind migration and the degree of voluntariness or compulsion;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 the distance covered and the duration of the journey;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 the permanence or temporariness of the stay;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 the size of the migrating group;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 the consequences of migration for the migrants themselves and for the societies of departure and arrival;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 the circumstances and experiences related to undertaking the journey, its course, and settling in a new place;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We invite representatives of disciplines dealing with the topic defined by the conference to participate, including historians, archaeologists, art historians, researchers of ancient literature, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
